What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture consists of the gentle insertion of fine, sterile, disposable needles into strategic points on the surface of the body. These points, which are quite effective in treating disease, have been mapped by the Chinese scholars over a period of two thousand years.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that health is the result of a harmonious balance of energy and the balance of complementary extremes known as “yin” and “yang” and the life force known as “qi,” pronounced “chi.” Qi is said to flow through meridians, or pathways, in the human body. These meridiens and energy flows are accessible through 350 acupuncture points in the body.

Sickness and Illness is a result of an imbalance of these forces.

Many understand the correlation of yin yang and the qi life force as a description similar to how nervous system pathways and our hormones functions.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been a wonderful holistic approach to health and healing. The goal of treatment is to help encourage the body to find healthy energy balance.

Acupuncture and Modern Medicine

Whether you understand it as meridian points in the body or changing the flow of energy through the body, or as modern medicine describes it, studies show that acupuncture can affect our bodies and relieve pain, symptoms of illness and elevate mood.

Acupuncture for Kids

For children, we most often use acupuncture for back pain, neck pain, headaches and stomach aches. Additionally, acupuncture has shown to be effective in disorders like digestive issues like colic, IBS or constipation.

Acupuncture can also be used on kids who experience nausea, anxiety or showing signs from high stress. Additional symptoms and chronic issues that acupuncture has been shown to be effective with are ADD/ADHD, autism, allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines, seizures and other chronic illnesses too.
